Sunday Morning Musings by Trevor

I woke up with an inspiration today. It may have mistakes, as I am only on my first cup of coffee! But bear with me.

I just loved the praise music yesterday as it was so inspirational and from the heart. ALL GLORY TO GOD! I was one of them guys singing, though I struggled with one song where the key was too high or something. But I sang! Not a complaint, just a guy voice thing!

I was singing the verses from the song “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus,” and I held my head high with pride for Jesus.

The world behind me, the cross before me;
NO turning back, no turning back
Though none go with me, still I will follow;

These words spoke right to my heart while I was singing. As followers of Christ, we get these things called values that lead to a different way of life. We put our focus on Jesus and less in the world matters. We are at service for him now.

These values place us, at times, in a type of segregation from the rest of the world, which is largely based on entertainment and pleasure. We may find ourselves lonely or not belonging, as we choose to not participate in some activities. This does not mean that we cannot have fun, but that some activities we avoid because of values.

Therefore, though none go with me, still I will follow! We might be in the 2% -5% in the class of the world! Talk about being high achievers eh? (humor)

It is a great way to enter 2018 as there is much work to be done. We serve when serving is inconvenient and time consuming. However, there is a reward at the end of our lives, or the beginning of our eternal lives. I don’t mean that we work our way to heaven, but just to hear the words when we open our eyes that say, “Well done my faithful servant.” A servant serves, and is not waited upon!!

Have a great week!

Did you know:

The lyrics for I Have Decided To Follow Jesus come from India! Specifically, a missionary named Nokseng who followed Jesus in the 19th century. He was called to renounce his faith by the village chief and he declared “I have decided to follow Jesus.” His two children and wife were killed. “Though none go with me, still I will follow.” “The Cross before me, the world behind me.” He was killed while singing the latter. These words were an inspiration and put into a hymn by Sadhu Sundar Singh – Wikipedia
