Message from Marian

Greetings Church Family,

For those of you who were not able to attend and partake in the tasty morsels and stimulating fellowship at our monthly Breakfast at Church this past Sabbath, mark your calendars now because you won’t want to miss the next one on May 19. And you especially won’t want to miss Worship this coming Sabbath when Pastor Harrison will be speaking for the last time as our Youth Pastor on The Cost of Calling. The service will be followed by a farewell luncheon.

Endeavouring to build community, we recently made arrangements to have a photo directory prepared. If you were unable to attend the March photo sessions, you still have an opportunity to become part of the directory. You may attend photo sessions at the following locations. Braeside Presbyterian Church, 6 Bernard Drive. St. Albert (780-459-6585), April 30th-May 1 from 2:30-8:30pm; Sturgeon Valley Baptist Church, 51 Woodlands Road, St. Albert (780-458-3777), May 2-4 from 2:30-8:30pm and May 5 from 10am-3pm; St. Charles RC Church, 17511-112 Street, Edmonton (780-456-5399), May 22-25 from 2:30-8:30pm. Just let the photographer know that you are from Red Willow and he will give you a cross over sheet to fill out.

This is just hot off the press…there is now a new, easier and perhaps more convenient way to donate your tithes and offerings. The Adventist Giving App is now available in the App Store for those of you who would like to donate online using your cell phone.

If your pantry supply of vegetarian food is getting low, you can restock this week at the Adventist Book Centre Bookmobile. It will be set up in the Coralwood Adventist Academy parking lot at 12218-135 Street in Edmonton from noon to 8pm today, Tuesday, April 24  and 11am-5pm tomorrow, Wednesday, April 25.

The Hymningbirds, a group committed to serving Edmonton’s homeless and impoverished, are conducting the Ultimate Action Pack Fundraiser. Percentage of sales will go directly to their ministry. See details at www.hymningbirds.org. For more information please call Dini at 780-721-2209, Tracy at 780-921-3388 or text 780-695-0136.

The Prayer and Encouragement ministries at RWCC are two very important aspects of Pastoral Care. If you are in need of prayer or would like to be added to the prayer chain, please email Donna Kutzner (wildon@albertacom.com). Likewise, if you are aware of anyone that is in need of encouragement, please contact Ona Marques (ona560@gmail.com).

There are a couple of events on the horizon that I would like to bring to your attention.

COME2LIFE and the Sexual Assault Centre for Edmonton (SACE) will be offering training on how to provide healthy responses to disclosures of sexual assault on tomorrow, Wednesday, April 25 from 9:30am-12:30pm here at Red Willow. The cost is $25.00. Register at www.come2life.ca. For information call 587-334-7572 or email info@come2life.ca.

Homeless Connect, April 29 from 9am-2pm, is a biannual event held at the Shaw Conference Centre where hundreds of social agencies gather together to offer free services to over 2,000 homeless and/or impoverished citizens of Edmonton. The Hymningbirds have the privilege of having their own booth and joining in with the likes of United Way, AHS, Hope Mission, E4C, YMCA and EPL. The event depends on volunteers to operate efficiently. Ken Forgach and his group could use some help at their booth. Please contact Ken at 780-619-1816.

Due to ongoing requests, Journey to Healthy Eating is offering a class on Everyday Whole Grains where you will learn how to prepare and include fibre and nutrient rich grains in all your meals. Two popular cooking methods will be covered: stovetop and instant pot. The instructor will share some of her favourite recipes while preparing millet, one-minute quinoa, Better Burger with bulgur, buckwheat and Spanish rice. Class will be held Wednesday, May 9 from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. This class is free, however pre-registration is required. Donations are appreciated to help cover cost of food and instructor’s time. For more information contact Yvonne at 780-801-0872 or email yourj2h@gmail.com

Until next week. . .

Blessings,
