Message from Marian

Greetings Church Family,

I was so blessed on Sabbath with the sweetness of the Coralwood Academy voices as they sang their praises to God. And my heart was moved to see how willingly the members of the Youth Praise Team freely gave of their time and talents to lead us in such a stirring musical worship.

Pastor Dan’s message last Sabbath spoke of loving like Jesus in the way that He broke bread, with not only His close followers, but also with publicans, tax collectors and sinners. In Luke 7:34 it says of Jesus, The Son of Man came eating and drinking and you say, ‘See! He likes food and wine. He is a friend of men who gather taxes and of sinners!’ But His purpose was not to be a glutton and a winebibber, but to enter in to true fellowship with those with whom He broke bread. Here at RWCC, we are committed to loving like Jesus in this aspect. This Sabbath, you and your family and friends are invited to our monthly Breakfast at Church starting at 9am courtesy of the Valencia family where you will have time to enjoy great food and fellowship. Two Bible studies follow at 10am. In the Fireside Room Morley Kutzner will lead out in the Sabbath School Quarterly study. The second Bible study, focussing on the Pastoral Epistles, is held in the back classroom across from the washrooms.

Refreshments will not be served after service this week. That is because our Breakfast at Church days are also known as Take Them Home Sabbaths where we feed you for breakfast and then you feed visitors and friends for lunch. Plan now to invite someone home for lunch to share a meal, fellowship and blessings as Jesus modelled for us. And if you are unable to host some family and friends for lunch this weekend, our next Breakfast at Church/Take Them Home Sabbath is May 19.

Endeavouring to build community, we recently made arrangements to have a photo directory prepared. If you were unable to attend the March photo sessions, you still have an opportunity to become part of the directory. You may attend photo sessions at the following locations. Braeside Presbyterian Church, 6 Bernard Drive. St. Albert (780-459-6585), April 30th-May 1 from 2:30-8:30pm; Sturgeon Valley Baptist Church, 51 Woodlands Road, St. Albert (780-458-3777), May 2-4 from 2:30-8:30pm and May 5 from 10am-3pm; St. Charles RC Church, 17511-112 Street, Edmonton (780-456-5399), May 22-25 from 2:30-8:30pm. Just let the photographer know that you are from Red Willow and he will give you a cross over sheet to fill out.

The Hymningbirds, a group committed to serving Edmonton’s homeless and impoverished, are conducting the Ultimate Action Pack Fundraiser. Percentage of sales will go directly to their ministry. The Prayer and Encouragement ministries at RWCC are two very important aspects of Pastoral Care. If you are in need of prayer or would like to be added to the prayer chain, please email Donna Kutzner (wildon@albertacom.com). Likewise, if you are aware of anyone that is in need of encouragement, please contact Ona Marques (ona560@gmail.com).

There are a couple of events on the horizon that I would like to bring to your attention.

COME2LIFE and the Sexual Assault Centre for Edmonton (SACE) will be offering training on how to provide healthy responses to disclosures of sexual assault on Wednesday, April 25 from 9:30am-12:30pm here at Red Willow. The cost is $25.00. Register at www.come2life.ca. For information call 587-334-7572 or email info@come2life.ca.

On Sabbath, April 28, Pastor Harrison will deliver his last sermon in the capacity of Youth Pastor. After the service we will have a farewell luncheon for him. Please plan to attend.

Homeless Connect, April 29 from 9am-2pm, is a biannual event held at the Shaw Conference Centre where hundreds of social agencies gather together to offer free services to over 2,000 homeless and/or impoverished citizens of Edmonton. The Hymningbirds have the privilege of having their own booth and joining in with the likes of United Way, AHS, Hope Mission, E4C, YMCA and EPL. The event depends on volunteers to operate efficiently. Ken Forgach and his group could use some help at their booth. Please contact Ken at 780-619-1816.

Until next week. . .

Blessings,
